basic income

choose a question!

Is there a danger that over time, the basic income would fall in value as it could increase at a lower rate than inflation, in the same way that child benefit has done?

If the basic income was entreched in the constitution, it would be possible to take the government to court if it attempted to reduce its value. Secondly the basic income would become a key policy in election campaigns and party manifestos so that the opposition party would be likely to challenge an attempt by the government to scale down the basic income. People would vote for the party that promised the most generous basic income.
